Swadeshi Science Movement (SSM) has been organizing the Swadeshi Science Congress (SSC) since 1991 every year to motivate researchers and also to preserve our traditional wisdom in diversified field. Swadeshi Science Congress is a platform to bring scientists, technocrats, research scholars professional students and enthusiastic science communicators and public together to present, discuss and disseminate the scientific knowledge. It is a congregation for exchanging their views, ideas and to work for the development of society through the intervention of Science, Engineering and Technology. The congress encourages presentations preferably in Malayalam.

The 20th Swadeshi Science Congress is jointly organized by Swadeshi Science Movement and Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Ernakulam in association with various R&D organisations from 6 to 8 November 2010, with the focal theme “Nanotechnology and Social Development”.

Advancement of Science and Technology ultimately addresses the Social Development. Science and technology of Nano-scale materials is one of the recent additions to the human knowledge which has visible impact in the social development. Nanotechnology has strong influence in medicine and cosmetics which has direct impact to the society. Topics like nano toxicaolgy and interaction of nanomaterials with biological systems have to be investigated in detail. The aspects of relationship between nanotechnology and social development are not a topic of serious discussion in any of the conferences or workshops organized by national or international organizations. It was with this point of view that Nanotechnology and Social Development is selected as the focal theme of the SSC 2010 . The conference includes plenary talks, invited talks and contributed papers.
